Worried about 13 May - Kit Siang wants Khai Loon "to consider" apologising over kangkung flash mob?

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang wants Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon to consider apologising for the flash mob over the kangkung issue.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lim said Lee should consider the apology "especially as there are those who regard such protest as excessive, offensive and insensitive (and I am one of them)."

"An even more important consideration is not to allow irresponsible quarters to look for excuses to distort and manipulate incidents to incite and inflame emotions which could escalate racial and religious hatred, conflict and tension in their ultimate objective to create another May 13 in the country," he said.

Lim said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was right in saying that the kangkung flash mob was nothing compared to the "butt dance" performed by a group of army veterans in front of then Bersih chairman Datuk S. Ambiga's house.

"The butt dance was clearly much worse than the “kangkung flash mob” but no Umno protests had ever been staged against the utterly tasteless butt dance," he said.

"Lee has to decide whether to apologise for the incident, which hopefully will start a virtuous circle for all political leaders and activists to be extraordinarily sensitive to the sensibilities not only of a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural society but also the very inflamed political situation at present," Lim said.

He added that there was no excuse for the protests like the one organized by Penang Umno on Saturday, which could incite and inflame racial and religious hatred, tension and conflict.

On Jan 15, Lee led the flash mob in Penang where he stuffed the vegetable into an effigy.

Tora Malaya..
